Her mother was long dead by the time Ancalimė took the Sceptre. A pity, since her accession would have validated her choice to marry and have a son in the eyes of Erendis the Proud.
As the years wore on, Ancalimė turned to the box that held her mother's elestirnė* more and more often, and that feeling of anger that had masked her wish for approval slowly changed into hatred. You're better alone, had been her mother's message. Yet, when Ancalimė thought of her life, her only happy memories came from the times when she had not been.
