Hi Altariel
I think your story is very successful, very moving, and very sad. In fact, a pointedly accurate portrayal of what much family life is like, without being melodramatic about it, as are many stories of Denethor as a hitter. Personally, I don't see him that way, rather being too cold and self-controlled.
I also understand your trepidation. It's scary to post anything that shows Denethor in a negative light, because of the Denethor-Aragorn wars that seem to light so many fires on fanfic sites. I think it's too bad that writers want to see it as something to take sides about. After all, these are STORIES. The point is, rather, is it a good story, or not? I like alternate views, and plan to write my own contrasting versions of some events.
