Um what happened to chapters 1-3 or are they just taken from the book, also may be an idea to mention quoting Tolkien at the start, I was a bit confused at first.
Wonderful first chapter though, I love your reasoning and it just shows how little changes make a big difference, looking forward to later chapters. i also like the fact you didn't go down the Mary-sue 10th walker route and the characters seem in character, like the idea of the hobbits spying on Boromir,
