Soubrettina asked for drabbles featuring pairs of characters, the odder the better.


An odd figure they cut beneath Ithilien's trees: childlike they seemed by Faramir, yet such grave speech was not for man and child, nor such suspicion. Master Gamgee had a sharp eye for the Captain. And though the 'guests' might not recognize it, no less sharp were Faramir's looks.

"What think you of the twain?" Damrod asked quietly, as they walked ahead in escort.

"Strange captives of a stranger fate," Mablung murmured.

"Strangely courteous, too," Damrod added. Mablung snorted, glancing backwards again, ere he shook his head.

"Courtesy shall save no secrets," he replied softly. "Not while Faramir is Captain."


"They set out at once: Mablung and Damrod a little ahead, and Faramir with Frodo and Sam behind. ... While they walked, as swiftly as the hobbits could go, they talked in hushed voices."—"Window on the West", TTT.
