If I were to list my top ten Tolkien fan fiction writings, this would be on the list every time. Every line of this lyrical poem for Lothíriel and Éomer sings of the great enigmas of life and love. I particlarly like the treatment of Lothíriel as a stranger in a strange land, paralleling her lonely journey from girlhood to womanhood and love. The third stanza changes pace from introspection to observation and shows as striking a picture of Éomer as I've ever seen.

It is difficult to select a few favorite lines; they're all wonderful. I guess the lines that convey the eeriness of her new surroundings ("the very air is scented strange", and her thoughts on her husband ("Now hark! a step within the hall / And comes the master of this house. / He paces like a tethered lion / This golden king, this warrior's son.") Whoof. First place winner of the 2003 Montreal Gathering of the Fellowship award for lyrical poetry, and probably many other awards as well. May thanks for this poem. I re-read it often. Regards - Chathol-linn
