Very well done, Marta! I was gratified to see this from another's POV, and you heandled Denethor;s madness quite well.

Hi Marta!

Very interesting story! This is an intriguing moment of canon, and I very much enjoyed seeing it from the POV of Beregond, whose heroism is underrated, in my opinion. But part of what I like is how he understates his own actions; he is definitely not one to exaggerate his importance or inflate his actions. In fact, he seemed to be speaking from the slightly numbed perspective of one who is still suffering from shell shock, or post-traumatic stress disorder, as we call it in these sugar-coated days.

A couple of minor quibbles: first, the Rod of the Steward is white, not black (you can find the entry in the HASA Resources Library by doing a search on "rod").

Second, there is a possible discontinuity: you write at one point that Denethor flings his rod to the ground, then later you have him break it over his knee (as in canon), but don't mention him picking it up in between.

Anyway, very interesting story to match a very interesting canon event!
