Thank you for posting this, Isabeau :) It's really a lovely story with a little bit of everything.

I'm glad I started going through some reviews on "Silver Swan" or I may never have heard about this one! From your intro it sounds as though parts may be incorporated into Heth's ongoing saga, and there were many portions of this story that I really liked. The whole first section including the hazing and cheerful kitchen staff was picture perfect (“Chopper!”), and Heth bucking up and not complaining at all – that would be just like her. I’d like to see lots more interaction between her and her fellow esquires. She must have some semi-friends among them by now. The pirate-capturing scheme was clever, although it seemed strange that Amrothos would so easily reveal much about the inner workings to a mere esquire. Her exchange with Gildor was wonderful. I liked that the Princesses were looking out for her, too. And Erchirion as the young version of Imrahil – fitting that Imri should go through some of what his own father did with him.

Andrahar, though, came off as being too petty, and I could never see him as representing Dol Amroth and the Knights as anything but at their best - though he'd not be above twitting Gildor and playing his games within those bounds! I would expect him to ride Heth harder based on his reasoning in Ch. 1 of Silver Swan, but not be deliberately cruel. (OK, he's one of my favorite characters of yours, so sue me! Also, I think unconsciously he doesn't like Heth simply because he loves Imrahil - a "noone will ever be good enough for *him*" sort of attitude.) And the ending with the assassin and Elrohir seemed too much a "Heth saves the day and everything turns out alright" scene for an ongoing story - she has to have *some* hardships in the next year and a half of training. (smiles) Plus, I'm pulling for Imrahil, and hated to see hers and Elrohir's affair being made so public in the seat of his power. Though I did especially like the “This night, you were fast enough” exchange, and Elrohir’s love affair with orange marmalade – I could just picture him leading a huge train of pack horses all the way to Imladris, each completely burdened down with crocks of marmalade! LOL.

Anyway, enjoyed your story very much as always! Thanks for continuing to share Hethlin with us.

Awww I loved the ending!!! Well, actually I loved the whole story. Hethilin is certainly a busy girl. I can't wait to read more of your work in this universe, keep up the good work :)

Ah, a wonderful gift for her to receive this Yule--acceptance of her capabilities from her reluctant instructor!

I do love the whole series of stories - but the image of Elrohir as Paddington Bear always amuses me so much that I felt I just had to comment here!

When I discovered the Unabeauverse, last Christmas, I devoured all the stories. This one remains one of my favourites and I think it is, at least in part, because of that image of Elrohir as Paddington Bear in the last paragraphs...
