Hethlin of Anorien
February, 25 2006
I know CMC's a done deal, but since I intend to give it a thorough editing in the future, I'll include it in this thread, as well as make this a place for any other Heth questions not appropriate for the Silver Swan thread.

I don't necessarily think of Halaran as totally grim, but I do think he was one of those people who felt more comfortable with his Eagle-friends than his fellow Dunedain for the most part. One can hardly blame him, really, given the suspicion with which his house was regarded.
But if you knew him, as did Liranael and Aragorn, he was probably more than witty enough. And I feel like he actually got along very well with the folks in Anorien, who were unaware of the baggage he brought with him and were willing to accept him at face value.
How do eagles choose their eagle-friends from Hethlin's House? Since they are so much longer-lived than humans, do they often have more than one human friend?
I would think they could have more than one if they wished to. I haven't actually decided how the selection process occurs-though it's obviously nothing like Anne McCaffrey's dragons! At present, I think it's more a case of which Eagle feels drawn to the human. Gwaenaur chose Hethlin against usual Eagle custom because I think she felt that Hethlin would be better understood by another female. But I shouldn't be surprised if Landroval shows up every now and again, for old time's sake.
