|All the tales of the Valar and the Elves are so knit together that one may scarce expound any one without needing to set forth the whole of their great history.|

Hethlin of Anorien
February, 25 2006
I know CMC's a done deal, but since I intend to give it a thorough editing in the future, I'll include it in this thread, as well as make this a place for any other Heth questions not appropriate for the Silver Swan thread.
Took up Nargil's suggestion of hitting the tolkienfanfiction homepage once in a while, and got a tremendous squee! when I realised that there were a lot of new comments here...
To chime in on the animal experimentation/Amrothos' narcotics discussion, maybe he started out with medications, then moved onto narcotics and poisons. He is living in a war zone, after all - it might come in useful, and it'll complement what his brothers are doing when they're risking their necks.
Perhaps it might atart out as related to Nimrien's death - hers was something that healers would have tried to ease using potions, but failed. And Amrothos, if I recall correctly, was at the age that he could understand what was going on, but was too young to do anything remotely useful except get out of adults' way - which would have really hurt. It might be a latent desire to 'make up' for his earlier helplessness and contribute to the field of medicine. Or just so that he can have a better grip of what was really going on during his mother's death, since he was young enough that the details would be a bit foggy by now.
And it's not that great a leap from medication to poisons, actually, since a lot of drugs used therapeutically can kill in higher doses, or if given inappropriately. The haradric manuals that Dwim suggests probably contained both the medicines as well as narcotics and poisons - since they're often the same thing in the end.
Those are just my thoughts - hope you can make something of it!
(And now back to exam revision! Noo.......)
