| | Journal Main Read Journal Entry Blog_display Hethlin of Anorien By:Isabeau February, 25 2006 I know CMC's a done deal, but since I intend to give it a thorough editing in the future, I'll include it in this thread, as well as make this a place for any other Heth questions not appropriate for the Silver Swan thread. Comment: There will be no animal experimentation. Well, how about this, then? Amrothos has an interest in poison. He also loves, loves, loves every slithery snake, clammy toad, independent cat, etc. that comes his way because they are just fascinating. So no animal experimentation. But he does want to learn about poisons - perhaps he goes looking for (a) book learning first (and I'm sure that the Haradrim have a few manuals on this - but perhaps Gondor does not [yet? publically?]), and (b) decides he does want some first hand evidence of how these things work experientially (the ones not likely to kill in low doses, plus the narcotics stuff) so he can time reactions, etc., and this is why he goes to Andrahar... The question is: why would he be moved to this extreme? What exactly would prompt him? If he's a younger person, is it possible that Amrothos has a core of uncertainty with regard to his particular gifts? That perhaps he feels somehow inadequate at a certain point in his young life - maybe when he turns fifteen or so, around the time when older brothers are all off risking their necks and enduring some pretty heavy bruising from dear Uncle Andrahar, the Drill Master...? Or did something traumatic ever happen that might push him to this kind of drive to get to know poisons? Or both?
