Princes of Dol Amroth

 February, 25 2006

Questions about the life and times of Imrahil and his family can be asked here, including questions about Ultimatums, Kin-Strife and the shorter stories. Discussions about Brand can go either here or in the Best-Loved Son thread, since his stories sort of overlap both cycles.

I think that was the order of events, re: Imrahil's feelings for Hethlin. Aragorn had her swear into Imrahil's service, then came the fateful trip to Lorien, followed by that hot kiss... Aragorn did know about Hethlin's feelings for Faramir when he swore her to Dol Amroth, right? (Or am I confused?) I don't remember if that was ever stated as a reason he was shipping her away from Minas Tirith/Ithilien, or if it was only speculation on Hethlin's part.

I like your points, Rebecca - I'd not thought about it before in terms of "foisting," although I've always looked askance at the way Aragorn has dealt with Hethlin, especially initially. It makes me wonder what (if anything) he is used to, when it comes to dealing with Northern Dunedain women.

It did bring to mind a another question (sorry!): Why did Aragorn want Hethlin to actually swear fealty to Imrahil? Other nobles send their sons for training in the Swan Knights, yes? Or are all those nobles actually in fealty to Imrahil anyway, and that is a firm requirement before anyone is allowed into the program?
