Princes of Dol Amroth
February, 25 2006
Questions about the life and times of Imrahil and his family can be asked here, including questions about Ultimatums, Kin-Strife and the shorter stories. Discussions about Brand can go either here or in the Best-Loved Son thread, since his stories sort of overlap both cycles.
the ladies of MT more or less conspired to get Thorongil out of the city and Finduilas kind of blackmailed him directly to his face to leave after his victory at Umbar?
I like that idea; it makes Finduilas more multi-dimensional and not just a down-trodden and homesick weakling. The thought that Boromir and Faramir were the products of a loveless marriage is unappealing. I much prefer the thought that Finduilas was strongly in love with, and active in her support of, her difficult husband. It also makes her end a bit more believable -- if she hadn't been so staunchly committed to Denethor in the years before things started to go bad, perhaps she would have left, at least with Faramir (to protect him as much as herself).
