I love being caught out like this! The quick answer is that if you become a lieutenant in the Swannies, you're a lord. But since I've not actually written Esteven's background in anything I've posted, I might change it again. Do feel free to bring these little inconsistencies to my attention. Quite honestly, I've written so much that though the big stuff sticks in my mind, increasingly I find these little problems slipping through.
