|All the tales of the Valar and the Elves are so knit together that one may scarce expound any one without needing to set forth the whole of their great history.|

OK, folks-this is the general forum now for questions that don't seem to fit in any of the other threads. I'm going to sort some of the earlier posts into the appropriate forums, but it might take a while, so bear with me. I'll delete the ones that have already been reposted by their authors.
dpetrash had some questions for me the other day, and said I could answer them here if I liked and if I thought people were interested. A couple of them looked like good conversation starters so here goes:
1) Was Adrahil's overprotectiveness of Imrahil strictly due to his own near-death of illness? Or were there other issues? (Kin-Strife)
That was the main reason. Finduilas had an older baby sister who died, and Imrahil was the only son. And it might be that Adrahil was really worried about the dynasty-other than his bastard brother, I can't seem to come up with any other brothers or sisters for him, so he might have been an only child himself, reacting as his father had reacted with him.
He did try to get over it for a while there, allowing Imrahil his career as a sea-captain. But when Imri went up against that Corsair ship that was twice his size, Adrahil jerked the leash up short again in Ultimatums.
2) How/when does Olwen die and what is her history? I know that Imrahil's stubborn streak comes from her, but that's all.
Olwen dies when she's out hunting and falls from a horse. She breaks her neck and dies instantly. You are right in that it takes place sometime between Kin-Strife and Ultimatums, probably a little closer to Kin-Strife.
As for her history, Soledad says she's a descendant of the original folk who lived in Belfalas before the Numenoreans came, but in my universe she's a proper well-bred lass. More than that I don't know yet.
3) Why is Imrahil plagued with such insecurities? I mean, the guy has it all. Is it just the weight of future responsibilities? (Kin-Strife and Ultimatums).
Well, the rich, famous and beautiful people are always moaning about how tough they have it...In truth, they probably do have problems that seem as insurmountable to them, they're just different than the ones most of the rest of us live with.
Imri is spoilt. Part of his fear is indeed that he won't be able to live up to his future responsibilities, the other part is that he will, and will never have any time to have fun again. Truthfully, the weight of expectations upon him is very heavy.
4) What is the third blade's story? (Kin-Strife, Chapter 3)
Oho! A good question that I don't have an answer to yet, since Lord Gildor hasn't condescended to tell me either. I will say I've thought about using it in another story. I'm thinking Erchirion might end up with it.
5) Will Hethlin return Boromir's knife to Brand or Faramir at some point? (Visions)
Yes. She will give the knife to Brand on his fourteenth birthday.
6) How tall is everyone? (Imrahil, Heth and Faramir especially).
I'm thinking that somewhere it was stated that Aragorn was about 6'6". We might have had this conversation on the list a long time ago. I figure Imrahil is probably 6'4" or 6'5". Boromir was the same height but heavier built. Faramir 6'3" or 4", and more lightly built than Imrahil. Brand will end up almost exactly like Imrahil. In CMC, I stated that Andrahar was an inch shorter than Heth. Heth's 6', so Andra's 5'11, which is a good size unless you're surrounded by towering Numenoreans.
7) At what point in her life is Heth looking back and telling her stories?
When she's about 140, during the time frame of Fourth Age, which I apparently need to post somewhere. I thought about framing CMC by having Heth tell the stuff to her great-grandson.
