Blogger Story

I suppose we should expect this. I think in the end, courts are going to protect people's right to free speech, but it could be tough times for a few who get caught. In cases where an employee trashes an employer by name or reveals embarrassing details of the workplace, I can see where the employer has a point. But, if it is just interesting stories of a person's life, with names changed to protect privacy, I don't see where the problem is.

 [1] Was the person blogging using the computers at work during work hours? If that's the case then I'm sure that the company has the right to fire them. I know that my school district has us sign something that says we will only use our computers for school related activites, though we can use them to check emails since that is like using the phone. I do go and occasionally check my fan fiction stuff and do other things that aren't school related at all, but I'm always aware that I'm not supposed to be doing it.

That depends on how tightly they enforce it. If other employees routinely visit non-work related sites, the company knew it and did nothing, she may be able to make the case that she is being fired, not for non work use of computers, but for having a blog.

Perhaps she can write a book about the experience and free herself from wage slavery.
