A place to discuss my various stories about the equally various Stewards of Gondor and their very various heirs!

[1] Hey, Altariel. Really enjoyed "Red River" and had a question about it, but not sure where the best place is to post. Please let me know if I should move this question to another thread.

So: Where is Faramir's summer house? When you said "pool" and "falls" it made me think of Henneth Annun, even though Ithilien is full of waterfalls and it could be anywhere. I'm guessing somewhere in north Ithilien to escape the heat, since it is a summer house? If so, Raksandhar was shown a great amount of trust to be allowed so deep into Gondor.

And is Raksandhar related to any other characters that we know from the Unabeauverse? (Captain Faris comes to mind because of his honor and sympathetic view of Gondorians, but he'd be too old to be R's father.)

Also, you can delete comment #1 - somehow it posted right after I input the validation code. I'll have to remember to do the code last from now on....

[2] On the questions about Faramir's summer house, it finally occured to me - is it Rauros Falls that Aragorn is looking at?

In perhaps a related question - where is Gondor setting off to war, in "Flowers of the Forest" - Rhun or Harad?

Actually, I imagined it as right opposite Henneth Annun: it's looking out over the Forbidden Pool. But you're right, it could be anywhere in north Ithilien.

If so, Raksandhar was shown a great amount of trust to be allowed so deep into Gondor.

I think Faramir is hoping that showing that trust will be a good way of ensuring Raksandhar's loyalty. So that Raksandhar betraying that trust would be as likely as Faramir betraying Aragorn's or Gandalf's trust.

I hadn't written Raksandhar to be related to anyone else in the Unabeauverse, but who knows what might emerge... ;-)

I'm really glad you enjoyed the story - thank you!

[4] is it Rauros Falls that Aragorn is looking at?

As I say, I think it's the waterfall at Henneth Annun (in part, that's because the story was written for the HA mailing list's birthday). A summer house near Rauros would mean Gondor has really strengthened its northern borders, that would be very interesting.

In perhaps a related question - where is Gondor setting off to war, in "Flowers of the Forest" - Rhun or Harad?

Harad, I think. Perhaps aiding a friendly lord in a civil war? I'm not sure...

I'm wondering if this is the same conflict Andrahar got killed in. We should probably decide at some point. I keep thinking "South...desert". I suppose it could be a civil dispute, some dust-up in Harondor.

I suppose I was thinking that Rauros is so large that it could be seen and heard from far away, but I hadn't looked at Fonstad's atlas first. Looks like it's almost a hundred miles from the falls to the foothills in North Ithilien, anyway - perhaps a bit distant, do you think? *g* Unless they like living in the middle of the Wetwang marshes...

I like it being by HA, regardless - it has muchos symmetry. And the Forbidden Pool is forbidden no longer!

Symmetry - irresistible!

And the Forbidden Pool is forbidden no longer!

I liked the idea that Ithilien is now safe enough for the Pool and the cave to have been decommissioned.

So do I, since it is a sign that peace has truly come. But part of me is sad that there are no slightly sodden Rangers there anymore. You just have to know that anyone from Faramir's Rangers still serving will have something to say about the new, softer generation with their nice, warm barracks!

[10] Hey, Raksandhar is my godson! Or something. He's named after me, isn't he? And he's my birthday present; so I could even call him My Precious...

Anytime you'd like to write how Faramir met and mentored Raksandhar, I'll be happy to read the tale.

RAKSHA, knowing that RED RIVER is the closest she'll ever get to Faramir's summer house
