Hethlin of Anorien

By:Isabeau
 February, 25 2006

I know CMC's a done deal, but since I intend to give it a thorough editing in the future, I'll include it in this thread, as well as make this a place for any other Heth questions not appropriate for the Silver Swan thread.

So it is established in Kin-strife that Andrahar knows where to go to get recreational narcotics and also has a working knowledge of commonly used poisons.

I'd like to see Amrothos, who, as we know, also has an interest in all such things, perhaps involving Andrahar in his little research project and seeing if there's a story behind why he decides on it.

(Ok, mostly, I think it'd be hysterical if just old enough to be considered adult Amrothos basically chats up his uncle to go get him some quality narcotics to experiment with. But surely one could find more things to do with this than just throw away humor!)
I do not even like to think about what Amrothos would be doing with them! It's a bit of a squick factor-would he be doing animal testing or something. That one is one I'd have to give a lot of thought to before I'd be willing to give it a go.
*shoos bunnies southeast* Kentucky, my fluffies - off you go!
*shoos at least some bunnies back northwest* Come on, guys-it's cooler in Chicago. And Dwim needs a break from all that academic writing!

Imhiriel replied: IMO, it could also go into the opposite direction: She could be someone who doesn't appreciate Andra for himself, but only sees him as someone exotic; and/or someone she wants to conquer for conquest's sake, to brag about to tittering court ladies.

I can't see see someone like Jenolas, either - someone of her status-obsessed attitude wouldn't want anything to do with a "Haradrim stray" in the first place.

Hey, why not have a couple of different would-be "huntresses", with a range of different motives, and their trials and Andra's tribulations complicate the story?

You do realize that you are enabling her, don't you, Imrhiriel? She really doesn't need any more help!

I'm pushing to finish my thesis so can't devote time to thoughtful participation in this fascinating discussion but I just want to say "Yay!!" Here's to hoping time and creative juices allow us to enjoy some new Isabeau material soon!
*Waves* Hi, Gwidhiel! Hopefully I can have a goody ready for you soon as a reward for all your hard work! Good luck with the thesis!

[134] I have a few bunnies, although this first one is to Dwim. I recently re-read Reconciliation and I was thinking how nice it would be to have a story about Aragorn and Andra's time in Harad. Aragorn is my favorite character and I think you and Isabeau both write him really well.

I'd also like to see a story of a youngish Hethlin when her father is teaching her something... how to shoot or stalk or something like that. How did she get to be so good at those sorts of things. Or, perhaps her father with Aragorn or doing something in the north. What was the errand he was doing for the eagles right be fore Heth was born? I know these are all one shots but those are things that are interesting to me too. I love all the Imrahil stuff that others have mentioned too and would love to see any of the WIPs finished!!

You have a lot of ideas now. :) But, if you're anything like me, the problem isn't the ideas, it's getting them on paper or simply finding the time to write!

Note: it is schizophrenic in Chicago where weather is concerned.

Dwim needs a break from all that academic writing!

Actually, no, Dwim does not... [shoves LACE essay under bed - no, I did not spend this morning writing an outline and introductory chunks of a fan essay instead of researching my topic, not at all...]

Fortunately for me, as of now, I don't have a significant incident in Harad that I'd want to write about. I gave them a smooth trip, except for the border-crossing.

Did you have anything more particular in mind? Some theme? What about the trip attracts your interest?

... she asks, because apparently concentration on work is out of the question this morning.

[137] Ah, I'm being very rude to butt in here, but since I like the way Radbooks' thinks and given the opportunity for further bunny-hatching...

Did you have anything more particular in mind?

The border crossing, for me, as it's the big battle of the trip. Imrahil has a vision in Kin-Strife: The image of a robed figure, blood clotting rough dark hair and pooling beneath it was with him still. He associates it with Aragorn (correctly or incorrectly), and later on Andra reflects on how happy Imrahil seemed to be that Andra went to Harad with Aragorn.

So I've always thought there must have been a very, very near-miss for Aragorn, for which Andra's presence provided the tipping-point.

[140] Carrots are better when it's hot, chocolate melts.

I had an idea (all by myself too!) A fic with Andra shooting, or trying to. We never see him with a bow and it's a known fact he doesn't use one. Is it because he can't or is he just not interested?

I'm looking forward to the Motherless type story. Whilst it's a fantastic ficlet you're right, there are too many people not there.

PLEASE dont let Amrothos start experimenting on animals. I helped out with the RSPCA for a while and they raided a lab. The state the poor things where in was apaling 3/4 had to be put to sleep because the where to injured or mentally traumatised to be re-homed.
