Princes of Dol Amroth

Questions about the life and times of Imrahil and his family can be asked here, including questions about Ultimatums, Kin-Strife and the shorter stories. Discussions about Brand can go either here or in the Best-Loved Son thread, since his stories sort of overlap both cycles.

 [271] Hi Isabeau,

I have an Unabeauverse question. ;-) (Well, a lot of them, but....)

As you know, I've posted a handful of Unabeauverse family trees on Altariel's Best Love Sons Wiki (at bestlovedsons.wikia.com/wiki/Best_Loved_Sons_Wiki), but I keep having to modify them, because of some information that Denise brought to my attention (not least of which that I *cough* forgot to include Brand *cough cough*)....

And, I'm still finding pockets of OC relatives all over the place, including this, from Confirmation:

Faramir had a cousin, a son of his fatherís sister. He was a good warrior and a steady captain, a great help to your father in fact, but he had no male heirs, only daughters and he died at Osgiliath.

So, since I like to include birth and death dates if possible, did this cousin die at Osgiliath on the June 20, 3018 attack that Boromir spoke of at the Council of Elrond? Or did he die just before the Retreat across the Pelennor described in CMC? Inquiring minds need to know!

And, OMG! If it was the latter, could he have been one of the seriously wounded that Faramir had to mercy-kill??? *feels a little green on Faramir's behalf....*

P.S. Oh, hey!!! Wasn't the lady in red from the ball where Jerulas got her canine comeuppance (*vbg*) some sort of a cousin? Must. Research. Further....

 [272] Hi Barbara!

The cousin died during the first attack on Osgiliath in 3018. I wouldn't make Faramir kill his own cousin-the poor man's got enough on his plate at that point!

Actually, Tathar was the girl in red. Merilyn was Denethor's sister's daughter.

[273] Yes, it's hard not to feel tender feelings towards someone who has been instrumental in insuring your beloved's survival!

Don't worry about the double post. I'll use my super admin powers at some point and remove it.

 [274] Hi Isabeau,

Thanks! I'll add the 3018 death date to the cousin.

Just finished combing through all of your discussions here, just to find out little tidbits for the family trees.... It was helpful, for I had forgotten about Denethor's (canon!) sisters and younger brothers, but I never would have realized that Jerulas is Valyon's daughter! That tidbit alone made it worth the effort. (And oh, what perfect cosmic karma.... that family deserves as many smackdowns as you can write *vbg* And Hethlin delivered hers sooo masterfully.... still one of my favorite moments, out of so many, in your stories.)

[276] I also went re-reading everything, not that I'm any good with Wiki stuff.

Did you know that you changed the spelling of Elchirion/ Erchirion also Alphor/ Alphros I'm guessing the latter versions are correct but the early ones apperar in CMC for Erchirion and DAY for Alphor.

Also when did you finnish Blackbow?! talk about suprised, I'm off to re-read that bit now.

 [277] Hello, Isabeau!

Re: Passages, Ch. 15

Eowyn says, "And bring Amrothos and Captain Andrahar and Hethlin as well! We will make a family evening of it."

I can't quite make up my mind: Why does Eowyn consider Hethlin "family"?

Thanks for another great chapter!

[278] Obviously I can't speak for Isabeau, but I'm guessing that Eowyn is pretty close to Hethlin by this time - as close as possible considering they live so far apart! :) Remember in CMC when Hethlin talks about being 'Auntie Hethlin' to the kids? Here is the part I mean:

... Eventually, you will probably wish to chase me away, for I fully intend to become Auntie Hethlin to your children, and spoil them dreadfully!" She smiled a little at that thought.

"I expect you would be very good at that. And we would hardly drive you away! No, we would be more likely to leave them with you for a fortnight or so while we slipped off for some time together!"

"Good. I could teach them how to track and hunt and shoot. You, of course, would teach them how to ride." Her smile became a grin.

"What would Faramir teach them?" I grinned right back at her.

"How to write unreadable poetry using obscure Numenorean verse forms." She laughed, and the last of the tension between us was dispelled.

[279] As to why Eowyn considers Hethlin family, well, gee, she wouldn't be married to Faramir if Hethlin hadn't saved his life. I don't know that they've had much of a chance to associate during Heth's training, though I suspect some letters were exchanged. But Eowyn knows that, life-saving aside, Hethlin is Faramir's friend and her friend and Imrahil's friend. She's in the inner circle.
