Isabeau's Journal

By:Isabeau
 November, 12 2005

OK, folks-this is the general forum now for questions that don't seem to fit in any of the other threads. I'm going to sort some of the earlier posts into the appropriate forums, but it might take a while, so bear with me. I'll delete the ones that have already been reposted by their authors.

[391] You may actually have found a topic I'm not interested in. I hate it when people die in stories. I've only managed to read In All But Blood once and I cried my eyes out. They can all live forever(childish as that may seem), jokes about fashion in the afterlife aside.

Knowing who Heth ends up with would be nice and certainly the fic being written wouldn't stop me reading. I just feel Heth deserves her own story, not that we find out like that. (we need a fanfair and thirty-odd chapters of build up to this momentus event.)

I don't know wheter the muse would curl up or be free and liberated by having it out in the open, you could always add this to the pile on the hard drive you mentioned. How much of an issue is the Heth thing for you?

[392] Gosh guys, you don't want much, do you?

Well, no *g*. And yet, you know there is a difference between wanting things and getting things - which still hasn't stopped anyone from wanting things anyway!

I am so tempted to go ahead and write this story and put it up despite the fact that it would finally answer once and for the choices Heth made. It is totally burning a hole in my brain, but I have to wonder if it would kill my muse or take some of the heat off. I really don't know which would happen. If you all knew the ending, would you be interested in sticking around for the rest of it, and all that...

As far as I'm concerned, you may go right ahead and post whatever you feel you want to/need to. I'm hopeless about spoilers anyway. And your canon as written is full of chronological back-and-forth jumps and holes and spoilers anyway (going so far as to Heth's great-grandson), so I imagine your readers are used to it.

I would think this would only be a problem for people whose only reason of further suspense and expectation is the question of who-will-Heth-nest-with (which would be a very restrictive attitude and a waste appreciation of your rich and complex writing and world-building, IMO). And although I'm in the other camp from Gwidhiel, I'm 100% with her in this respect: even if that question isn't answered as I'd like it to, I'd still be following along very eagerly.

On the plus side, there's some stuff floating around that could be posted once I settled the issue once and for all.

Why not do what Nargil said and write it down just for yourself, to get it out of your head. You can then later decide if you want to publish it or not.

Isn't there something Altariel has already written that might be published if you do go forward with loosing this specific spoiler policiy?

[393] Gosh guys, you don't want much, do you?

As much "Isabeau & Friends"-verse as we can get? Nah, not much... I only check Tolkienfanfiction every single day, hoping for something -- anything! -- more about your Imrahil, Andrahar, Nimrien, Hethlin, Brand, Faramir, etc.... No pressure, or anything like that.....

I can guarantee Imri doesn't die of brain cancer.

Well, that's a relief! I think.... *ponders other horrible ways to die*

Your Imri is A Good Man, and doesn't deserve to suffer any more than necessary! He deserves to die peacefully with his family about him, just as Andrahar, Another Good Man, deserved to die in battle, just as he would have preferred.

I am so tempted to go ahead and write this story and put it up despite the fact that it would finally answer once and for the choices Heth made.

And that's a problem, how??? *lifts eyebrow*

Hey, your readers could use some rain after a long drought, too! *nudge, nudge*

It is totally burning a hole in my brain, but I have to wonder if it would kill my muse or take some of the heat off.

Um, don't know about you -- but when *my* muse demands that I write something, he doesn't stop tormenting me if it doesn't happen to be convenient. And if I don't cooperate fully, he walks off in a snit... sometimes for a year at a time.

Moral of the story: Always Obey Thy Muse!

If you all knew the ending, would you be interested in sticking around for the rest of it, and all that...

*stares in open-mouthed astonishment* You're joking, right???

Does the fact that we know that Nimrien dies make us any less hungry for more "Ultimatums"? Does that fact that we know that Andrahar dies before Imrahil make us enjoy "The Recall" less? Does the fact that we know that Imrahil dies before Hethlin keep us from cheering Heth on in "Fourth Age", and laughing ourselves silly at the ending? Does the fact that we know Boromir dies make us not want to figure out how they weather the trouble brewing at the end of "Blackbow"?

Your characters are real and three-dimensional enough to make us truly care for them. That means that they will die sometime, too, just as we all do.

On the plus side, there's some stuff floating around that could be posted once I settled the issue once and for all.

Your fans are loyal, persistent, and insatiable. Every hint, every chapter, every standalone vignette, every story sends us into raptures of delight, and endless debate about all the delicious details.

Oh, and did I mention determined?

[395] Oh, Isabeau, we would most definitely be interested in your stories after we find out who Heth ends up with! I don't know about anybody else, but a large part of the attraction for me is reading about _how_ something comes about, rather than what exactly it is.

Besides, judging by the chorus of calls to complete them, Ultimatiums and Blackbow are still very popular, even though we know the outcome already (Imriel gets the girl and Heth gets her wish).

So please please don't hold back from writing for fear of revealing answers!

[396] Well, I guess I'll write it and see how I feel about posting when it's done. I'm hoping that it will free the muse up rather than otherwise.

And yes, there is a really lovely Altariel story that she's not posted for years because she didn't want to spill the beans as it were.

[397] Isabeau: Well, I guess I'll write it and see how I feel about posting when it's done. I'm hoping that it will free the muse up rather than otherwise.

Coming to the party late, but I agree that you should write what the muse insists. It can always wait until you are ready to show it to us, although thinking about posting it and actually posting it may affect your muse two different ways.

Isabeau: And yes, there is a really lovely Altariel story that she's not posted for years because she didn't want to spill the beans as it were.

*drools*

As with the other - much more eloquent - choruses *g*, I can say I'll be checking back in just as fervently and frequently whether or not you answer Who Heth Nests With. The journey is the big thing for me, not the ending, and there are lots of other mysteries and unanswered questions to keep us guessing!

(Although, if Hethlin does end up with Elrohir, there will always be a quiet little Unabeauverse AU playing in the hidden corners of my heart. *g*)

[398] Yes, yes, write away! I know I'll be reading your stories no matter how it turns out. I re-read stories all the time and enjoy them even when I know the ending, so knowing who Heth ends up with is no deterrent to me enjoying your other stories!

[399] Another person arriving late just to say, I'd definitely keep reading this story no matter what happens in it. Its on the top of my list of great fanfiction universes, and the one I invariably reread when I've had a bad day and want to go to sleep happy. I'll enjoyed everything you put online, even if the stories with Heth are my favourites.
